It feels great to help people and I’m pretty sure I can say that is one of the main reasons we do our jobs.
I don’t judge people by the way in which they have injured themselves or any diseases they happen to have. Our duty is to look after our patients and to help them to live healthy lives. I won’t tell someone off for their lifestyle or their life choices but I will discuss their lifestyle, inform and educate about any associated risks, how they might minimise risk and provide them with support if they want it.
Helping people everyday is the best feeling. And working with children, for me, is one of the most enjoyable group of people to help. We don’t often see or treat children’s who have hurt themselves in the way you describe, but we wouldn’t judge anyone differently. As healthcare professionals, we always have to put the patient’s needs first.
