Great question Eliza!
There are lots of different roles in the NHS which means lots of different working hours, however often shift work is involved.
From experience normal working hours for nursing and healthcare assistant roles would be 7.5hrs per shift per day, although a lot of clinical environments now do long days / nights which can mean 11.5hr shifts for example: 7:30AM – 19:30PM.

It depends upon which day of the week it is. My longest day is a Friday when I work 10 hours. My shortest day is just 4 hrs. Rob as a paramedic works 12 hour shifts including nights. As a primary care nurse I don’t work any nights. Kirsty

Our children’s service is community based and is not an emergency service, therefore our working patterns are fairly routine.
Most of the team work a 7.5 hour day from 8.30 until 4.30 with half an hour for lunch. Some of the team work part time to accommodate child care needs.
We are lucky that our service tries to help people work flexibly if they need to, so some people work what is called a ‘9 day fortnight’ and work 9 longer days over a 2 week period and then have a day off. This helps people who travel a long way to get into work everyday.
